Star Metals Urban Park

Overview

Star Metals Urban Park will be an immersive destination that weaves together nature, sport, cynophilists, gastronomy and community within the memory of an existing warehouse.

The project, located within the heart of the Star Metals District in Atlanta’s West Midtown, taps into a recent surge of residential and retail projects that has accelerated the community’s desire for public park spaces. The neighborhood has historically been an industrial corridor and is now a vibrant mixed-use destination.

The park will encapsulate an existing 40,000sf sf industrial site and repurpose the structural framework of a 20,000sf single story building. Select demolition of the exterior brick and concrete walls, retention of the steel columns and bar joist roof structure has been reinterpreted as a contemporary trellis system for native plants and vines to flourish.

Beneath these hanging gardens a large dog park will be bordered by linear pocket parks which inform a new streetscape concept and will thoughfully connect to a new 327 unit multi-family project directly to the east, which is currently under construction.

The existing building has two slab transitions to account for the steep topography condition that surrounds the property. Within the building footprint, the split level, upper terrace has been utilized for 3 pickleball courts which will overlook the various green spaces below, while simultaneously elevating this dynamic sport to center stage within the park.

Star Metals Urban Park will be complemented with 2-3 new food and beverage concepts that will define the perimeter streetscape and bring new foot traffic to what will become Atlanta’s most innovative urban park.
