Wynwood Arts District Rubber Facade

Overview

This dog boarding concept design was inspired by man’s best friend. Colorful rubber dog toys informed the monolithic geometry and durable materiality of the building’s design.

The project consists of a 3,500sf two-story building with a roof terrace that overlooks two dog playing fields. The ground floor interior spaces are divided into a reception and retail area, dog kennels and grooming stations. Staff offices, meeting areas and social spaces are located on the upper level.

The building is clad in rubber, a miraculous material that’s durable, colorfast, sound deadening, impervious to water and can be compounded to be fire resistant. While testing various color options for the façade, we decided to work within the color spectrum that canines can perceive. This visible spectrum is essentially muted tones, ranging from grey, yellow and blues.

The proposed façade is rendered with livid rubber tiles and a raised pink textured ribbing that creates playful emblems across the entire building.
